About the North Shore Indoor Arena

North Shore United Soccer Club is perparing to begin their second year of operating the North Shore Soccer Arena at the Topsfield Fairgrounds.  The North Shore Soccer Arena will continue to offer area soccer players unique local indoor soccer options.  First, the arena will offer three side by side Calcetto fields.  Calcetto is an Italian term for small sided soccer played without walls and with a regulation soccer ball.  The arena will also offer the flexibility of combining fields to offer larger spaces for match play.  Also, NSU will continue to offer their youth training facility for players from U5 -U9.  Called the NSU Grasshoppers Program, local youth players will be offered the chance to not only play but receive professional training from the NSU Coaching Staff.

"This is an amazing facility and it's very excitiing to continue to improve." Says club president Stefano Franciosa.  "We are pleased to continue to offer our club and our community excellent, well managed indoor soccer opportunities."

The NSU Grasshopper Program will offer North Shore Town leagues and local youth players the opportunity to participate in small sided leagues for youth players U5 - U9.  The club will provide professional coaches to make the experience invaluable for young town players.  This train and play program will not only offer small sided competition but also professional training during each one hour session.  The NSU "Grasshoppers" will focus on skill development and will offer a safe, fun and competitive atmosphere for young players.

NSSA will continue offering the Italian style Calcetto soccer.  This small sided game is played with a full size ball on a field with lines to emphasize the great control and spectacular passing that is such a huge part of the beautiful game.  Calcetto is played on a synthetic grass surface with a regulation soccer ball.  Calcetto is superior to the popular Futsal in that the surface is more realistic and safer and the use of a real soccer ball more closely resembles the actual game of soccer.  No other indoor center on the North Shore offers this style of play and it will prove not only fun and entertaining for players but will serve as a great development tool for local youth and club players.

"We're very excited to be able to offer indoor soccer without walls," continues Franciosa.  "The quality of the indoor game is greatly diminished by the presence of walls and lack of out of bounds territory.  When a shot is missed, it should not bounce right back on the field for another try, that's not how soccer is played.  I'm thrilled to be able to offer local players a realistic indoor soccer environment.  At our arena players will train and play with regulation balls, on a synthetic grass surface complete with lines.  Playing with a weighted ball on a hard gym floor is not good for your joints or your game.  Here at the North Shore Soccer Arena we will offer players a fantastic indoor experience.

NSSA will be running three eight week sessions staring in  October  25th 2010.
